Cottage Pie / Shepherds Pie

This delicious family dinner classic is filling and nutritious. Serves 4.


1 Pack Lean Ground Beef or Mutton Mince
1 Onion
Mixed Veg e.g. broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans - a 250g Packet Frozen Mixed Veg works well

1 Head Cauliflower
1/4 cup Milk
1 Tbsp Butter
1 Tbsp Flaxseed/linseed flour (optional to thicken)


If using frozen vegetables defrost them in the microwave for 3 mins.Place mince in microwave safe dish and cook for 10 minutes. Chop onions and any vegetables (if not pre-chopped).

Place the mince, onion and vegetables in a microwave safe dish and microwave for another 10 minutes. Stir once in the middle.

For the topping:
Break/cut cauliflower into chunks and cook with a little water in the microwave for 5 minutes. If cauliflower is still hard put it in for another 5 minutes. Once soft, add the milk, butter and flour and mash. You can use a fork to mash but it is easier with a potato masher.

Spread cauliflower mash over mince/veg mix and microwave for 5 minutes. You an also use a grill to brown the meal at this point if you prefer.
